How to evolve Charcadet

Charcadet evolves via a game-specific armor item — exclusive to either Scarlet or Violet. In Scarlet, you need the Auspicious Armor to evolve Charcadet into Armarouge (Fire/Psychic). In Violet, you need the Malicious Armor to evolve it into Ceruledge (Fire/Ghost). To obtain the armor:

1. Defeat a wild Bronzong in Asado Desert and grab 10 of its Bronzor Fragment drops. 2. Take the fragments to the NPC in Zapapico town (Auspicious in Scarlet / Malicious in Violet — same NPC, different item depending on your version). 3. Use the armor item on Charcadet from your bag — it evolves immediately, no level requirement.

If you have the opposite game's armor, you can trade for it through Link Trade or Surprise Trade. The armor is one-time-use; you'll need to repeat the Bronzor Fragment grind for each Charcadet you want to evolve.

Where to find Charcadet

Charcadet is rare. It spawns in two specific areas: the **South Province (Area Three)** caves near Alfornada, and the **East Province (Area Three)** near Casseroya Lake. Spawn rate is low — expect to wander for 15-30 minutes. False Swipe is recommended to catch with low HP. Charcadet's level range is 28-35 in early-game; you can find higher-level Charcadets in late-game encounter spots.

Is Armarouge (Scarlet) worth using?

Both evolutions are strong VGC and OU picks. Armarouge (Fire/Psychic) runs Mystical Fire / Psyshock / Energy Ball as a special wallbreaker with Weak Armor enabling Speed sweeps after a hit. Ceruledge (Fire/Ghost) is the physical attacker with Bitter Blade (Fire STAB recovery) + Shadow Sneak priority + Swords Dance setup. Ceruledge is slightly more meta-relevant in current OU due to its unique Fire/Ghost typing offering both spinblocking and offense.

Trivia

Charcadet's two-version-locked evolution mirrors Galarian Yamask's evolution choice in Sword/Shield. The armor items also reference real Bronze Age relics — Auspicious means 'favorable omen', while Malicious implies cursed armor. The version-exclusive lock is to encourage trading between Scarlet and Violet players.
