What defines the Electric type
Electric Pokémon are almost universally fast and special-attacking. Raikou, Zapdos, Thundurus, Iron Hands (Electric secondary), Regieleki, Miraidon, Pikachu (lol), Magnezone — base 100+ Speed is the norm. Electric STAB hits Water and Flying super-effective, two of the most-used types. Electric also brings Thunder Wave — the meta-defining speed-control status that halves Speed and 25% chance to skip turns. Electric Terrain (Tapu Koko, Pincurchin, Electromorphosis) boosts Electric moves by 30% and prevents grounded Pokémon from being put to sleep.

Electric offensive analysis
Electric hits Water and Flying super-effective. The biggest downside is that Ground-type Pokémon are immune to Electric attacks entirely — and Ground is the most-used offensive STAB in the metagame. Hidden Power Ice or Ice Beam coverage is standard on every Electric special attacker to handle Dragon and Ground-types. Choice Scarf Thunderbolt is the single most-common revenge-kill move in OU history.

Electric defensive analysis
Electric has 2 resistances (Electric, Flying, Steel — that's 3 actually) and 1 weakness (Ground). The 1-weakness profile is great in a vacuum, but Ground attacks are everywhere. Levitate (Rotom, Eelektross) flips this — Rotom-Wash with Levitate has zero true weaknesses. Volt Absorb (Vaporeon, Lanturn) heals 25% HP on contact with an Electric move.

Electric type history & meta shifts
Electric got Flying resistance in Gen 6. The big shift was the Tapus in Gen 7 — Tapu Koko's Electric Surge auto-set Electric Terrain on switch-in, supercharging Specs Thunderbolt. Gen 8's Galvanize ability (Pixilate equivalent for Electric) gave Stoutland and Boltund unique offensive identities. Gen 9 added Quark Drive triggering in Electric Terrain on every Future Paradox Pokémon.
