Fairy stats
What defines the Fairy type
Fairy was added in Gen 6 to nerf Dragon dominance. The rules: Fairy is immune to Dragon attacks, hits Dragon super-effective, resists Fighting/Bug/Dark, and is weak to Poison and Steel. The immunity makes Fairy-types the universal Dragon-counter. Modern OU is built around Fairy threats: Iron Valiant (Fairy/Fighting), Flutter Mane (Ghost/Fairy), Tapu Fini (Water/Fairy), Mimikyu (Ghost/Fairy), Magearna (Steel/Fairy), Hatterene (Psychic/Fairy with Magic Bounce). Pixilate (Sylveon, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Altaria) converts Normal moves to Fairy with +20% STAB — Hyper Voice through Substitutes.

Fairy type history & meta shifts
Fairy added Gen 6 explicitly to nerf Dragon. Latios, Dragonite, Garchomp, Salamence all lost competitive viability immediately. Gen 7 added the four Tapus (Tapu Koko, Lele, Bulu, Fini) as terrain-setter Fairies. Gen 9 added Iron Valiant, Flutter Mane, and Tinkaton — all currently OU-defining Fairies.
