What defines the Normal type
Normal is the biggest type by Pokémon count. Most Normal-types are early-game route Pokémon (Pidgey, Rattata, Bidoof), but the competitive Normal scene is strong: Snorlax (Curse + Body Slam), Porygon-Z (Adaptability Hyper Voice / Tri Attack), Staraptor (Reckless Brave Bird), Slaking (Truant means it's mostly worthless competitively but raw stats are highest of any non-legendary). Normal's biggest impact comes from ability conversions: Pixilate (Normal → Fairy +20% damage), Galvanize (Normal → Electric), Aerilate (Normal → Flying), Refrigerate (Normal → Ice). Hyper Voice on a Pixilate Sylveon is essentially a 117-BP unsubsetable Fairy nuke.

Normal offensive analysis
Normal hits nothing super-effective. Resisted only by Rock and Steel; immune in Ghost. Body Slam (85 BP, 30% paralysis chance) and Hyper Voice (90 BP, hits through Substitute) are the staples. Extreme Speed (80 BP, +2 priority) is the strongest priority move in the game.

Normal defensive analysis
Normal resists nothing but is immune to Ghost. Weak to Fighting. Pure Normal Pokémon are essentially walking targets defensively. Snorlax compensates via 160 HP base + Thick Fat ability (halves Fire and Ice damage).

Normal type history & meta shifts
Normal stayed unchanged across all gens. The defining shifts: Choice Band Tauros / Snorlax (Gen 1-2), Belly Drum + Extreme Speed Linoone (Gen 3), Pixilate Sylveon (Gen 6), and Mega Lopunny's Scrappy ability (hits Ghost with Normal/Fighting) in Gen 6.
