What defines the Fighting type

Fighting is the offensive answer to Steel and Dark — two types that resist or are immune to most other STABs. Fighting-types are typically physical attackers (Conkeldurr, Iron Hands, Urshifu, Lucario, Machamp), though Keldeo and Iron Valiant break the mold as special Fighting hitters. Fighting moves are generally high-BP with downsides (Close Combat lowers user's Def/SpDef, Focus Blast has 70% accuracy, High Jump Kick deals 50% recoil on miss), forcing players to weigh power vs. consistency.

Mega Lucario, Conkeldurr (Guts + Flame Orb + Drain Punch), and Iron Hands (Drain Punch + Wild Charge) define the physical Fighting meta.

Fighting defensive analysis

Fighting takes 2× from Flying, Psychic, and Fairy. Three weaknesses isn't terrible but two of them (Flying, Fairy) are common offensive types. Pure Fighting Pokémon like Conkeldurr rely on bulk and Bulk Up to compensate. Fighting/Steel (Lucario, Zamazenta, Cobalion) and Fighting/Dark (Urshifu, Pangoro) drop the Psychic weakness.
