Charizard @ Heavy-Duty Boots Ability: Solar Power Tera Type: Fire EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Fire Blast - Solar Beam - Focus Blast - Roost
Overview
Charizard is Sun's premier wallbreaker. Solar Power adds 50% Sp. Atk in Sun (Drought from Torkoal or sun setter ally), bringing its 109 base SpA to Specs-equivalent damage while staying off-Choice. Heavy-Duty Boots is mandatory because Charizard is 4× weak to Stealth Rock — without Boots, you take 50% per switch-in. Tera Fire converts Solar Beam into Tera Blast Fire if you need it, but most builds keep the original typing for Roost utility.
Move analysis
Fire Blast is your nuke — 120 BP, 1.5× from STAB, 1.5× from Sun, 1.5× from Solar Power = 405% of the base damage. Solar Beam handles Ground-types and bulky Waters (skips charging in Sun). Focus Blast for Heatran, Tyranitar, Kingambit, and Blissey. Roost extends Charizard's life by removing the Flying weakness for that turn (so Stone Edge users hit you neutral) and recovering 50%.
Team partners
Torkoal (Drought setter), Bloodmoon Ursaluna (sun abuser, Tera Normal hits everything), Walking Wake (Sun-boosted Hydro Steam), Hatterene (Magic Bounce vs. hazards), Great Tusk (Rapid Spin backup, Earthquake on opposing Fire-resists).
What beats Charizard
Heatran (immune to Fire, walls everything except Focus Blast — and dodges that 30% of the time), Tyranitar (Sandstorm kills Sun, resists Fire, Stone Edge OHKOs), Garganacl (Tera Water + Salt Cure stalls), and any unaware mon that ignores stat boosts.
