Overview

Gholdengo's Good as Gold makes it immune to ALL status moves — Toxic, Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock setup (it can block Defog/Spin attempts). That alone makes it the premier Steel/Ghost defensive pivot in Gen 9 OU. Air Balloon avoids the Ground weakness on turn 1. Nasty Plot + Recover lets you set up against passive Pokémon (Toxapex, Blissey, Garganacl) and sweep.

Move analysis

Make It Rain (Steel STAB, 120 BP, lowers SpA after) — hits both opponents in doubles. Shadow Ball for Ghost STAB. Nasty Plot is the setup move. Recover for longevity. Alternative move pool: Dazzling Gleam for Hydreigon, Power Gem for Talonflame/Charizard, Focus Blast for Tyranitar.

Team partners

Great Tusk (Spin support and Fire/Ground answer), Iron Treads (Spin alternative with Booster Speed), Slowking-Galar (Chilly Reception + Future Sight), Garchomp (Earthquake for Heatran).

What beats Gholdengo

Tyranitar (Sand chip, Crunch hits hard), Hydreigon (Dark Pulse, immune to Steel), Tera Dark Sucker Punch users, Roaring Moon Dragon Dance + Crunch one-shots through Nasty Plot bulk.
